Top-producing real estate broker, entrepreneur and innovator, R. Michael Brown brings over 30 years of real estate industry and executive experience to his ventures. Michael began his real estate career in 1984 when he earned a Texas Real Estate License and partnered with a one-man brokerage based in Westlake, an affluent area of Austin, where he spent four formative years learning the business.
Background:
Michael obtained his broker’s license in 1986 just on the cusp of the market downturn. After cutting his teeth in this extremely difficult business environment, he emerged as a solo broker. From 1986 to 2006, Michael worked primarily in land brokerage and development. He honed his expertise in farm and ranch brokerage, subdivision development, and consulting in the new home construction industry.
In 1994, he was named one of the original Austin Elite 25SM, Austin’s top one percent of luxury realtors, maintaining his place on the list for a number of years by representing buyers and sellers in multi-million dollar transactions. Michael’s strategy has always been relationship rather than transaction driven, focusing on repeat business with a handful of valued clients.
Avalar Austin Real Estate:
The relationship-based business model is a cornerstone of Avalar Austin Real Estate, the full-service, real estate agency where Michael serves as one of three brokers/owners and director of business development. Michael was one of the original founders of the agency in 2006, when Avalar opened three offices in the Austin area.
Today, Avalar operates two offices in Dripping Springs & Steiner Ranch, plus two additional offices in Burnet and Lampasas as part of his farm & ranch arm, Carpenter Real Estate. Through fluctuating markets, a growing roster of agents and changing broker/agent trends, Avalar & Carpenter Real Estate have maintained their high-touch customer service culture. While agent mentorship, training, coaching and relationship-based business are foundational values, Michael knows from experience the challenge of maintaining a high level of quality service in an ever-changing industry. Brokers must simultaneously keep up with legislation, technology, marketing and business operations, all while furthering their local-market expertise.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in park administration and landscape architecture from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Calgary. He holds an active Texas Real Estate Broker License and is a member of the Austin Board of REALTORS®, the Texas Association of REALTORS®, and the National Association of REALTORS®. In his personal time, he enjoys fishing, flying planes and spending time with his eight grandchildren.
